Leave the Footscray railway station and walk east along Bunbury Road.  Cross Moreland Road and turn left.  Proceed along Moreland Road, turn right into the Footscray Community Arts Centre, and the Happy River Cafe for coffee.

After coffee, proceed down to the Yarra River. Turn left and proceed along the river bank past a large golden statue to your left in the Buddhist Temple of the Heavenly Queen.  Enter the Newells Paddock Wetlands Reserve on the left.

At the sealed path, turn right.  At the ‘T’ junction, walk along beside the river that is on your left hand side. Continue on the sealed path up over the pedestrian bridge (This was a former stock bridge, relocated from Punt Road, South Yarra.)

Continue on the sealed path and veer right. Cross over the cobblestone roadway.
Pass a large open park area on the right, follow the path on a left bend then a right bend, past Neale St. then Graham St. both on the right, and walk parallel to Sherwin St.

Continue along Coopers Lane then turn right into the Womens Peace Garden that is a very pleasant place in which to have lunch with tables and benches available.

After lunch, proceed up the hill to Epsom Rd., turn left and walk to Smithfield Rd, cross Epsom Rd. and walk along Smithfield road to Racecourse Rd. where you can catch the 57 tram back to Flinders St. Station.

Walk is about 4.3 km.
